I am delighted to say that Sedlescombe Primary School Sensory Garden has been shortlisted for an award at the Society of Garden Designers Awards 2021, judged by respected experts including designers, academics, journalists and horticultural professionals from the landscaping industry.
Designed, built and maintained for free by Kristina Clode Garden Design with the help of school volunteers; the garden was opened in December 2017 by Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener of Great Dixter. Surrounded by a steep bank planted with scented Mediterranean shrubs, colourful perennials and swishing grasses, the drought-tolerant gravel garden has three seating areas, one with a shade-sail, nestled in among plants with different textures, colours and heights which dynamically change over the course of the year. The children and teachers use the garden throughout the school day and the outdoor space has been particularly appreciated throughout the pandemic.
The SGD Award winners will be announced on Friday 15th October 2021 at an Awards Ceremony at The Landmark Hotel in London.
All the finalists are featured on the Homes & Gardens Magazine Website.
