A garden designer helps you make the most of your space, bringing clarity, creativity, and structure to what can otherwise feel like an overwhelming process. We consider how the garden will look, feel, and function as a whole, how you move through it, how it changes through the seasons, and how it connects to your home. Just as importantly, a well-designed garden saves time, avoids costly mistakes, and ensures the space works properly from the outset. We make sure the design can be built with confidence, with the right materials, levels, and detailing considered from the beginning. The result is a garden that feels cohesive, considered, and lasting, rather than something pieced together over time.

The first call is a relaxed 10 - 15 minute conversation where we’ll talk through your project, site, budget and what you’re hoping to achieve. It’s a chance for us to understand your vision and for you to get a feel for how we work.  This is a vital, no-obligation step to ensure it feels comfortable proceeding to a full site visit.

The initial consultation costs £1,200 (inclusive of VAT). This includes a site visit of up to three hours with Kristina, followed by an online presentation of the design proposal which includes initial design direction moodboards. A PDF copy of the proposal is provided for your records. For clients located more than one hour from Rye, travel expenses will be added to the consultation fee.

Our clients are discerning homeowners with generous outdoor spaces who value thoughtful, high-end design and are looking to create a garden of lasting quality that will blend harmoniously with its surroundings. We generally work with clients who wish to invest upwards of £50,000 on their project, with larger and more complex projects requiring correspondingly larger budgets.   We work across Sussex, Kent & Surrey and further afield for the right projects.

Initial Consultation We begin with a visit to your garden, where we take the time to understand the space and discuss your project in detail. Following this, we prepare a design proposal and present it to you (usually online), along with moodboards to help illustrate the overall direction. Concept Design Once the proposal is agreed, we develop a concept design for your garden, supported by a topographical survey and carefully considered moodboards. We’ll then meet with you (usually online) to talk through the design, gather your feedback, and refine the scheme until it feels right. Master Plan & Tender Package With the design finalised, we produce a comprehensive Master Plan along with a full tender package. This includes all the information needed to build the garden, such as technical drawings, scopes of work, setting out plans and any additional plans (for example drainage or lighting). We can introduce you to trusted landscapers we regularly work with, or you are welcome to appoint your own. Project Monitoring During the build, we offer a project monitoring service. We attend the site at key stages to ensure the garden is being implemented in line with the design and that the details are carried through as intended. Planting Design & Installation Planting plans are typically developed towards the end of the build, allowing us to respond to any on-site changes. We then set out and plant the garden, ensuring the scheme feels natural, cohesive, and true to the design vision. Aftercare & Maintenance Once the garden is complete, we provide a detailed maintenance schedule to guide its ongoing care. If needed, we can also recommend experienced gardeners to help maintain and nurture the space over time.

A topographical survey is an essential part of any garden redesign. It records key information such as boundaries, levels, and existing utilities, all of which the designer needs to create an accurate, functional, and safe outdoor space. This survey forms the foundation of the entire design process and is not a stage that can be skipped. The survey will be carried out by a professional surveyor, and we can arrange this on your behalf using a trusted contractor.

Absolutely, we regularly collaborate with architects and always welcome being involved as early as possible in a project. Bringing a garden designer in at the outset allows us to shape the outdoor space in harmony with the architecture, maximising views, sightlines, and the overall relationship between house and garden. We contribute a garden-focused perspective that helps create a seamless connection between the built and natural environments. Early involvement also means key elements such as drainage, access, and levels are carefully considered from the start, leading to better outcomes, smoother coordination, and greater value for our clients.

Yes, we can provide 3D visuals either of specific parts of the garden or in full, depending on the complexity of the design and client requirements. If there are complex level changes we may design directly in 3D from the outset.

Unsurprisingly, this is one of the questions we’re asked most often—and the honest answer is: it depends. There are two separate elements to consider: the design fee and the build cost. Design Fee: Our design fees are based on the time required to develop your project and cover each key stage of the design process. Factors such as the level of detail, specification and site conditions all play an important role in shaping the overall cost. While size is a consideration, a smaller garden does not necessarily mean a lower fee, compact spaces can often be more complex and just as time-consuming to design as larger ones. Following the initial site visit, we provide a clear, transparent proposal outlining your design fee and exactly what’s included. Fees are structured in stages, allowing you to spread the investment over time. We ask for a commitment through to completion of the Master Plan stage, after which the Tender Pack, comprising the Scope of Works, technical drawings, and setting-out plans, is developed, in phases as required. Planting design fees are typically estimated initially, as they depend on the final layout and extent of the planting areas. Once the Master Plan is agreed and these areas are confirmed, we provide a fixed planting design fee. Build Costs: The cost of building the garden is determined by the landscape contractor. As a general guide, industry figures typically range from £250–£450 per square metre (including VAT), depending on the level of finish, materials used, and overall complexity of the project. This figure is an average, blending higher-cost elements such as patios and paving with lower-cost areas like lawns. Therefore if you have a very large scheme that incorporates an area of meadow the cost per square meter will be reduced, whereas a more complex design featuring bespoke elements, water features, or extensive hardscaping will naturally increase the overall cost.

Our focus is on the design, while the construction is carried out by a specialist landscape contractor. We are happy to support you in selecting the right contractor and can recommend trusted professionals we have successfully worked with. You will have a separate contract directly with the contractor, who will undertake the hard landscaping and prepare the planting areas. We will carry out site visits at key moments of the construction phase to ensure the design is being carried out as planned. Once the construction phase is complete, we supply all the plants and carry out the planting.

The construction phase begins once the design has been finalised and a landscape contractor has been appointed. Timelines vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, weather, time of year, as well as contractor availability, but most projects are completed within 3–6 months. Planting is usually carried out in the Autumn or early Spring.  It’s worth factoring this into your overall project planning, particularly if you’re coordinating with other building works or working to a specific deadline.
