Opening for the National Garden Scheme for the first time this Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July, 12pm-6pm, is Chapel Farmhouse in Tilmanstone, Kent, by garden designer Kristina Clode. In only its second summer, this delightful garden on three sides of a Georgian farmhouse is packed with gorgeous plants and interesting features.
In the front garden there are romantic mixed rose borders, pleached trees and quartered layout of flagstone paths, leading through a bespoke iron gate made by local blacksmith Joel Tarr to a small Japanese inspired water garden with a pond spanned by a Yatsuhashi zig-zag bridge. You can sit on the stone bench, listen to the gentle tinkle of a water bowl fountain and enjoy the plays of light on the water. Next you arrive at an oval lawn centred on the conservatory and surrounded by richly planted borders. Curved gravel paths lead you either to the small orchard and wild flower meadow or across to the formal brick path vegetable garden, where there is a lean-to greenhouse, raised beds and iron arches over the central path leading to the house.
Do take this chance to visit this lovely garden which shows just how much wow factor you can fit into a relatively small plot, with great design.
