Georgian Walled Garden
Historic walled garden redesign to compliment Grade II listed Georgian Manor House.

Designed to complement the character of the tall, historic garden walls surrounding a Grade II listed Georgian manor house in Lydd, this romantic rose garden combines a traditional quartered layout with a modern, naturalistic approach to planting.

A bespoke steel pergola runs along the garden walls supporting an elegant framework of climbing roses, Wisteria, and Clematis, with a gravel path flowing beneath. Reclaimed Yorkstone paths extend from a doorway in the wall to the existing summerhouse and intersect at right angles through the garden, with a classic stone sundial forming the central focal point.

Planting is lush and evocative: a harmonious mix of white and pale pink David Austin roses, rich pink and purple old roses, and a tapestry of cottage garden perennials. Towering Veronicastrum, Delphiniums, Lupins, Nepeta, and peonies create vertical interest, while airy Selinum wallichianum and Althaea cannabina bring a delicate, ethereal quality to the borders.

Together, these elements create a timeless yet contemporary garden that sits beautifully within its historic setting.
