Front & rear gardens for a new Eco house in Winchelsea Beach which had landscape planning requirements for bat habitat conservation.

Drought tolerant front gravel garden with a coastal theme, lots of pollen rich plants for wildlife, Rosa rugosa with autumn hips and scented Trachelopsermum, rosemary, oregano, swaying grasses and many bulbs.

Heavy clay boggy soil in the rear garden by the pond has enabled planting of moisture loving plants such as Angelica archangelica, Eupatorium, Persicaria and Succisa pratensis. There is an orchard area with wildflower meadow close to the house, and a productive area with raised vegetable beds and a greenhouse.

New hard landscape materials were from local sources, some reclaimed materials were also used. Rainwater is collected from the house and all the outbuildings and is re-used.

Following the building of the new eco house and garden, the pipistrelle bats returned to a new bat box on the side of the house, which was fantastic.

Kristina was interviewed by Toby Buckland in this garden on BBC Gardeners World, episode 24 on Friday 8 September 2023, see the clip below!
