I’m pleased to say that I’m one of the first 100,000 citizens to be certified as Carbon Literate!
In March of this year, I undertook a day’s worth of climate action training led by Change Agents UK and Open University Wales and accredited by the UN-recognised Carbon Literacy Project.
The training enhanced the skills and motivation I have been working on throughout my MEng studies to think about the most impactful actions I can take to cut carbon emissions and contribute to the low-carbon transition.
While my studies have been focussed on the impact I can make as a professional, the training opened my eyes further to the individual impact we are having on our climate through decisions we make every day including how we move around and what we eat.
The training encourage pledges on an organisational level, but not being a part of a large organisation my pledges focussed on the immediate actions of me and my family.
Following the training, I pledged to use public transport or my bike for journeys as much as possible, to make better informed decisions about what my family and I eat, to reduce food waste as far as we can, and to start some more earnest composting at home and at our allotment.
As a result, I achieved my Carbon Literacy certificate – as the 91,968th person to be certified.
Now, the Carbon Literacy Project has certified over 100,000 citizens across 33 nations – and rising!
