Large Front Courtyard Garden

Garden Design,
Kent

This large courtyard garden was originally all laid to gravel, my clients wanted to create a fitting entrance approach to their period property, in keeping with its countryside location and the large natural pond at the front of the house. Parking and turning space for several cars, and access to the new garage had to be incorporated into the design.

Previously part of a farm yard the front ground was very poor, mostly deep compacted rubble which had to be excavated by machine with new soil brought in. For this reason I decided to raise the beds and retain them with CorTen steel, to reduce the depth of excavation needed, and give a contemporary twist but still with an old rusted feel to the design.

Loose romantic planting softens the look and blends with the pondside planting, to offset the expanse of gravel and the mass of the house. Bespoke CorTen steel troughs line the side garden planted with large leaved shade loving exotic looking plants, to provide a leafy transition to the rear garden.
